#THROWBACKTHURSDAY Music Edition

It is pretty hard to imagine a life without music! It wouldn’t be wrong to say that it is a part of our daily lives. While we are studying, sitting in a bus or walking to home, we all look for some background music. Of course, it is fun to listen to new releases, but isn’t the taste of listening to old songs different?

Here are 10 songs that we bet you already know and can get into the mood directly when you hear them!

  1. WANNABE – SPICE GIRLS

The Spice Girls madness started on 8th of July 1996 when they first released the song. During the summer, the radio stations’ number one song was Wannabe and the 5 girls immediately started to represent the girl power and joy around the world. The song starts with footsteps following the iconic laugh of Mel B and till the end the song does not lose its one and only quality: catchiness. This is how we still hear this song in many places and cannot help to sing along to this song when we are alone or when we are out with our friends.

2 – EYE OF THE TIGER – SURVIVOR

The bass sounds, impressive composition and motivational lyrics… Since 1982, this song is a hit in many people’s lives. We became aware of this song with the theme song of Rocky III. This song made a hopeless man into a boxing hero. And now don’t we all turn into a box champion when we hear this song?

3 – YESTERDAY – THE BEATLES

When something simple and ordinary thing is done amazingly, a masterpiece can be born. Just like Yesterday. It is about a relationship that has lost its old energy and about a person that is going through a break-up, longing for the old days. According to “The Guinness Book of Records”, no other songs were covered more than Yesterday. We still listen to this song, especially when we have lots of questions just like the narrator of the song and when we want back our yesterday. So tell us, do you also believe in Yesterday?

4 – DANCING QUEEN – ABBA

The Swedish band’s success with this song can be understood as it was a Number 1 Hit, not only in Sweden, but in many countries, such as Belgium, United States, Mexico and South Africa. The song is catchy and symbolizes the joy of youth. The song provided its permanence when Mamma Mia! was out both on stage and on screen.  No wonder how we all still know this song by heart… One of the members of ABBA, Agnetha Fältskog, once said about the song that, “Out of pure happiness that I would get to sing that song, which is the absolutely the best song Abba have ever done”. The stage is yours all the Dancing Queens!

5 – WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS – QUEEN

And here comes an iconic piece from the rock history! Every member of Queen actually contributed the song while the lyrics belong to Freddy Mercury. It is no coincidence that the song is being played in the celebrations of sports teams, because Mercury said that he was thinking about football while writing it. Queen has a distinct effect, if you listen to one song from them, it will lead to a Queen Marathon for sure. So I hope you will enjoy yours 🙂

6 – DREAM ON – AEROSMITH

What is your “hunger to be somebody”? Because this is what the song is about as the writer of the song Steve Tyler confirmed saying “Dream until your dreams come true”.  He worked on this song for years and it was completed with the help of the members of the band. It may shock you that Tyler took the chordage of the song from his early ages while he was listening to his dad playing piano.

7 – TOXIC – BRITNEY SPEARS

Toxic reconstructed Britney Spears’ life as she was going through a career slump back then. She needed a hit and she got what she wanted. The song is about a girl being obsessed with a guy, according to Spears’ own words. Other than the song itself, the music video is very intriguing as well. Britney Spears won her first Grammy with this song in the category of Top Dance Recording.

8 – MY HEART WILL GO ON – CELINE DION

Two things: Celine Dion’s amazing voice and the movie on fire Titanic. This perfect combination brings us this song till these days. Titanic wouldn’t be the same without this song and the song wouldn’t be completed without the story behind it. The success of the song does not have to be proven, but back in the days it won the Academy Award for Best Original Song and Grammy Awards for Record and Song of the Year. In case if you still have doubts!

9 – WONDERWALL – OASIS

As many others on this list, this song was also a peak point in the band’s career. It is one of the songs that has no time, but not everyone thinks in the same way. Even the lead singer Noel Gallagher despises the song! But we believe he is only one of the people in the minority. Despite to the fact that many people assumed that this song being about a girl is wrong. Gallagher says that Wonderwall can be everything in life. “Because maybe You’re gonna be the one that saves me, And after all You’re my Wonderwall.

10 – I WILL SURVIVE – GLORIA GAYNOR

Our last timeless song belongs to Gloria Gaynor which is a song that is empowering and encouraging people in many ways. It may be the best one which fits into The Geam the most as it represents personal strength as well as female strength. No need to describe this song as the title says it all!
