Most of us go through the process of sending our CVs to companies, attending interviews, and waiting for an answer. The most stressful part though is being interviewed because we don’t know what type of questions we will face.
Generally, there are two type of questions that are asked: basic and unusual. “What are your weaknesses and strengths?”, “Why we should hire you?”, “Why do you want this job?”, “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?”, etc. are the questions that every workplace asks the interviewees. However, there also may be thought-provoking, extraordinary, and confusing questions which confuse candidates.
Here are several weird questions that were asked by famous companies:
- “How would you sell a fridge to an eskimo?” by Harrods
- “How would you solve problems if you were from Mars?” by Amazon
- “If you had a giraffe where would you hide it?” by Urban Outfitters
- “What is the most creative way you can break a clock?” by Apple
- “If you were going to give a TED talk, what would it be about?” by Airbnb
- “Who would win in a fight between Spiderman and Batman?” by Stanford University
- “How many golf balls can fit in a school bus?” by Twitter
Apparently, all of these questions are not those that you are used to expect in an interview. Nevertheless, if you follow some steps, you can answer such interesting questions easily.
Interviews always make people feel nervous and stressful despite it being their first or tenth interview. But if you stay calm and feel confident, your answers will be much more successful. Taking a deep breath before entering the room will help you incredibly!
Do not rush to answer
If the question is complicated and you do not know the answer, it is quite normal. You can take your time and think a little bit. You may even ask the interviewer to clarify the question if it is not clear for you.
Practice as much as you can
Before being interviewed, preparing and practicing for probable questions that the workplace you want to be employed by may ask you can help you a lot. For this purpose, you can ask from your friends, acquaintances, or parents if any of them work at the company that you want to be hired by, or you can search on the internet about it. For example, you can enter Glassdoor and find about any company’s interview questions, even salaries and company reviews.
Use your creativity
The most significant factor in answering unusual, tough questions is creativity. Creative responses to weird questions can get you the job in a minute. Since almost every company need creative employees to develop and work effectively, such skill will be needed in every part of your career.
