The Slot in Vue
The slot is a rectangular area on the ice in field hockey and ice hockey that extends towards the blue line. The word slot has two distinct senses, both related to the verb sleutana. The low slot refers to the area in front of the goaltender and below the faceoff circles, and the high slot is the middle section of the ice, above these circles. The term slot has many different applications in sports, such as ice hockey and field hockey.
The word “slot” is late fourteenth-century French. It originally meant a hollow on the throat above the breastbone. Old French esclot also has an Old Norse ancestor. It first appeared as a verb in the 1520s, while the meaning of “slot machine” was not discovered until the 1880s. Despite its origins, the word “slot” has become one of the most popular terms today.
Vue 2.6.0 introduced a unified syntax for slots. The slot-scope and slot-attribute attributes have been deprecated and replaced by the v-slot directive. Slot, as well as its scope attributes, are supported in Vue 2.x, but are officially deprecated in Vue 3.
Despite the common use of the word “slot” in everyday language, it is still a reconstructed term for fastening. The word “slot” is related to several words, including Old Norse slot, Old High German sloz, Old Saxon sloz, and Old Frisian slut. It is derived from the Proto-Germanic stem *slut “close.” Its meaning is akin to “peg” – a wooden peg used to hold a piece of cloth.
